We are working with NWL CCG, to deliver service to fit Coils for patients with heavy menstrual bleeding and Pessaries for patients with prolapse. This service is provided by GPs with a special interest in gynaecology and a specific qualification and experience in fitting Coils. To view our information leaflets please see links below.

Coil Eligibility Criteria? 

Women who:

  • are over 18 years old
  • have heavy menstrual bleeding
  • have either completed their family, or have no desire to start a family

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Coil fitting for contraceptive purposes
  • Suspicion of gynaecology malignancy or an undiagnosed pelvic mass
  • Women with a breast cancer diagnosis and are on Tamoxifen
  • Women unwilling to trial a Mirena Coil

Pessary Eligibility Criteria?

Women who:

  • are over 18 years old
  • already have a ring pessary which needs replacing 
  • have uncomfortable and uncomplicated prolapse of uterus/ vaginal wall and wish to try ring pessary support

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Incarcerated and irreducible prolapse
  • Prolapse secondary to pelvic mass or free fluid in the abdomen
  • Women with Gellhorn or Hodge Pessaries who need replacement with same type pessary
  • Women who wish to have surgical treatment and don’t want to consider Ring Pessary

Where and when are the clinics being held?

During the pilot, there are weekly clinics every Friday morning at one of two locations in Hillingdon – The Townfield Doctors Surgery in Hayes or the Hillingdon Health Centre. Patients are offered a choice of clinic dates and locations when the service administrator calls to offer you a convenient appointment.
